Current Status of FCT

• The debate appears to be a conflict between progressives and those who are invested in the status quo and established “knowledge”.

• Many individuals who have learned to point or type to communicate using facilitated communication are now independent communicators. Some have learned to speak. They are getting on with their lives and teaching us about the supports that they need. For them the debate is over.

• In his recent book, Reasonable People, Ralph Savarese aptly describes FCT as “resurgent”.
